raaarrrgh

(just a wee tribute to Rory's Roaring there. His favourite method of communication at the moment.)

The news in brief today:

The fifth tooth est arrive... bottom left, next to the front one. Boo to you, Dr Miriam Stoppard, with your confidence that the fifth one would be on the top! (You're otherwise our light and guide, though).

Rory crawled across the room today. Well, squirmed slowly across the room, really. In the graceful manner of an elephant seal on the move. He's still pulling himself up a lot, as well, and today used this skill to investigate the contents of our recycling box (nice!). In the bath he's taken to spending his time doing pull-up/sit down reps. (Getup.. Get dowwwnnn...) It's like the training scene in GI Jane... except with a big round tummy and a cheeky grin...

And now tiny scientist corner: the latest experimental data suggests that "ah! ah! ah!" sounds much better if shouted directly into a tin cup whilst in the bath.* It is also good to shout this in Granny and Granda's close, which has a groovy echo. These results are being submitted for peer review (those other babies can be harsh critics, I can tell you) and publication in the The Proceedings of the Royal Society of Shouting At Things in due course.

Oh and here's Rory pretending to be a musical prodigy at Ali's Mum and Dad's house. (Of course we've since explained to him that being very talented at a young age is no longer the fashion, as we recently found out in this, frankly ungracious, article:
http://music.guardian.co.uk/classical/story/0,,1997387,00.html. Having read this, he has promised not to bother trying.)

"Start spreeeaaading the neeewwwsss... I'm here all week - AAAhhhmmm leeaaaving todaaaay... try the beef... "

*Those results in more detail:
Hypothesis: when having a bath, it is better to shout in a tin cup than just shout in general.
Experiment phase 1: "ah! ah! ah!" out of the cup. Result: fairly loud but you wouldn't call it fantasic.
Experiment phase 2: "ah! ah! ah!" into the cup. Result: brilliant!! Baby has hysterics.
Conclusion: hypothesis holds water (in the manner, indeed, of a tin cup)

Comments:
That Philip Hensher article is quite horrible isn't it? What a dreadful man.
